HIGHLANDS PLAYHOUSE

LIBBY WHITTEMORE
May 25 - May 28
We’re kicking off our 74th season in style with the
“by popular demand” return of Libby Whittemore. She and
the band will perform a rousinghost of songs from the
war-time era as well as other long-time favorites.

The SpitFire Grill
June 14 - July 8
The main season begins its run mid June with The Spitfire Grill
which received its Off-Broadway World Premier at
Playwrights Horizons in New York. The Spitfire Grill is an
uplifting and inspiring story of a young woman’s redemption,
and the reawakeningof a small Wisconsin town. The folk
and bluegrass tinged score is unlike any other musical.
“A Show with universal appeal! The score is exciting,
infectious, and lively!”, Joel Hirschhorn , Variety.
“The Spitfire Grill is remarkable and profound. In time it will become a classic”,
Tom Williams, The Chicago Critic.
“This tale of renewal is like a pair of arms waiting to wrap
its audience in a hug”, Daryl H. Miller, The L.A. Times.

WALTER CRONKITE IS DEAD
July 12 - July 22
Joe Colarco’s Walter Cronkite is Dead played at The San Diego
Repertory Theatre in summer 2011 to rave reviews. One of its
stars, Ellen Crawford, is known for her numerous film and television roles including
many years on the popular NBC show, E.R. We are currently in conversation with Ellen,

her Co-Star Melinda Gilb, and Shana Wride who directed  the production at the
San diego repertory Theatre.

Dames at Sea
July 26 - August 19
Dames at Sea started as an Off-Broadway production but
later moved to Broadway with Bernadette Peters in her debut
role as Ruby Keeler. A group of performers are preparing for
their upcoming show, Dames at Sea. Right before the show
opens, the theatre is sold and the actors need to Find a new \
venue. Luckily, they are able to perform their show on a ship docked in the local port.
After Mona, the leading lady gets seasick, Ruby earns her chance to become a star. The play is a
rollicking spoof of large, flashy 1930s musicals. "Dames at Sea reaches out to those movies in
which two gobs met two gals and tap danced their way to happiness. Dames at Sea manages to
have it every which way - as pastiche, parody and romantic musical comedy, a trick that is
accomplished with affection.” Mel Gussow, NY Times

Lindsey Alley
August 31-September 3
Arising from her own experiences in the Entertainment
Industry and working with some of its most famous players,
her one-woman show "Lindsey Who?" is what happens when
show tunes and stand-up collide.
Lindsey is single-handedly reinventing the great American club
act. As a vocalist, Lindsey knows her way around a song be
it pop, original, or that standard you’re dying to hear one
more time. And if that isn’t enough, she holds it all together
with personal stories that most people would be too embarrassed to tell In a
memorable evening of belting and belly laughs,  Lindsey lets it all hang out, which
prompts her mother’s unsolicited stock apology, “I tried. I tried and I failed.”
